Students & campus
Get a campus to act together with one link
Students are quick to agree and slow to be first. Crowd fixes the ordering: everyone commits to a number, and the action only happens when the number is reached.
The problem
Campus organising is spread across a dozen group chats, none of which agree on how many people are actually coming. Society events get cancelled for low turnout that a threshold would have predicted. Walkouts fizzle because nobody knew if others would stand up.
Why a threshold fixes it
- Anonymous joins. No student ID, no email, no list for anyone to ask for.
- One link works across every year-group chat, the society Discord and the students' union feed.
- Targets scale from a seminar group to a whole university.
- Yellow and red cards give a quiet way to flag a clash with exams or a problem with the plan.

How to do it
- 1
Pick the action and the number that makes it undeniable.
- 2
Create the action with the day and time. Keep the deadline before the day itself.
- 3
Share the link in every chat you're in and ask the society committees to do the same.
- 4
If the count hits, everyone acts. If not, regroup with a smaller ask.
Questions
- Can the university see who joined?
- Not through Crowd. There are no accounts and no participant list. The university network may log which sites you visit, so use mobile data if that concerns you.
- Can societies use it for ordinary events?
- Yes, and it's a good way to avoid booking a room for 100 and getting 12. Set the target at the break-even number.
- Is there a student version or a discount?
- There's nothing to pay. Crowd is free for everyone.
- Can I use it for a rent strike?
- You can use it to find out how many people would take part before anyone commits. Read up on your rights and get advice from your students' union before going ahead; Crowd counts commitments, it doesn't give legal advice.
